First Sunday
West L.A. Discussion Group
Join us for the next scheduled meeting:
Sunday, May 4, 2008, 11 am
Yahoo Center (formerly Colorado Center) , 2500 Broadway, Santa Monica (near corner of 26th Avenue and Broadway). In the community room (entrance outside, ground floor).
What is a Humanist Manifesto?
Open discussion with Humanist leaders.
Humanist Manifestos: there are at least four available online. Three of them are from the American Humanist Association: those of 1933, 1973 and 2003; and one of the Council for Secular Humanism of 2003.
HALA member Gary H. asks,
-
What other atheistic philosophies are there?
-
Which do we think are not Humanism?
- Why do we Humanists hold humanism to be more important or better than other atheist-like philosophies, such as nihilism or objectivism? Are they compatible or incompatible?
HALA co-president Larry A. Taylor will bring copies of all the manifestos for examination.
Humanist Manifestos I, II, III are on the web site
of the American Humanist Association,

"Humanism and its Aspirations."
